Understanding the early stages of weight loss medication and setting realistic expectations.

If you’ve just started Mounjaro (or are thinking about it) and aren’t seeing the results you expected straight away, don’t worry. One of the most common concerns we hear from people taking weight loss medication is: “I’m on the 2.5mg dose and haven’t lost any weight—is it working?”

The short answer is: yes it is.

Kirsten, one of our expert Health Coaches has some answers in this short video.

Understanding the 2.5mg Starting Dose

The 2.5mg dose of Mounjaro is what we call a tolerance-building dose. It’s not designed to trigger rapid weight loss—it’s actually preparing your body to handle the medication with minimal side effects. While some people (often called “super responders”) may see results quickly, many won’t notice a big change in appetite or weight during this early phase. That’s completely normal.

In fact, not experiencing side effects can be a good sign. It means your body is adjusting well, setting you up for greater success when you move on to higher, therapeutic doses—starting at 5mg. This is where most people begin to see more noticeable weight loss results.

Trusting the Process

It can be discouraging when progress isn’t immediate, especially if you’re making changes to your lifestyle. But remember, sustainable weight loss isn’t about quick fixes.

Mounjaro and other weight loss medications are part of a long-term strategy that works best when paired with consistent habits, support, and time.

So if you’re feeling frustrated, don’t give up. You’ve already taken the hardest step—starting your journey. Stick with the plan, trust the process, and know that your body is making subtle shifts that will pay off in the weeks ahead.

What Comes Next?

We will help you evaluate how you’re tolerating the medication after the first month before increasing the dose. From there, the dosing can continue to step up gradually – in increments 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, and eventually 15mg – depending on your individual response and goals.

Every step up gives your body a bit more of the active ingredient, helping to increase the medication’s impact on your appetite and metabolism. And with each dose increase, you’re getting closer to finding the level that works best for your body.

What you can do now:

  • Keep tracking your food, movement, and how you’re feeling – this data can help guide future conversations with your provider.
  • Stay hydrated and consistent with your meals, as these habits will continue to matter as your dose increases.
  • Ask questions! Whether it’s your doctor, a CheqUp Health Coach, or your care team – we’re here to help you navigate each stage confidently.

Remember: This is a journey, not a race. Higher doses are coming, and so are the results. You’re right where you’re supposed to be.
